Painted in Silver and gold on a dark grey heater felt, these female figures wear traditional cedar root hats, and various styles of cedar robes and tunics. They are in the pose of traditional figures seen at the very tops of some older Tlingit totem poles in South East Alaska. They are called 'Watchmen'. Here the women watch over the center design which is the Salish Moon surrounded by Canoes. Overall the design honors the prayers of the grandmothers for the safekeeping of their children and grandchildren, as they paddle to the huge annual gathering of Northwest tribes simply called: Canoe Journey.
